WHAT IS A CLEAR BRA?
A Clear Bra is the modern replacement for those old black vinyl bras. It is a clear urethane based film applied to your vehicle so that it follows the contours of your vehicle's forward facing surfaces, including your headlights. The film forms a protective barrier between your vehicle and road debris. In most cases it will cover as much, if not more, area than the old vinyl bras did. The Clear bras we install today are designed to stay on you vehicle 24/7, giving you around the clock protection, unlike a vinyl bra that needs to be removed in certain conditions.
The clear bra protection film can be applied to any car, truck, motorcycle, boat, or RV to protect against rock chips, scratches, or abrasions. With proper care, the protective film remains nearly invisible, allowing the brilliance of your vehicles finish to shine through.
Can I install the film myself?
We don’t suggest it. Just as you wouldn't tint your own windows, you shouldn't install this film without months, or even years, of proper training.
What if I can't find a kit for my vehicle?
In most cases, we will be able to customize a kit for you.
Will the film yellow over time?
The answer is yes and no. Although the film we use has UV inhibitors in it, it is natural for all urethane films to discolor somewhat. However, with the proper care and maintenance, any degradation in the clarity of the film should barely be visible to the human eye.
How do I care for my new clear bra?
First, The Simple Answer
1- Keep the film waxed with PLEXUS (www.plexusplasticcleaner.com)
2- Use ONLY soap & water to clean the film, then protect it with PLEXUS
3- Do not use any kind of Petroleum based products on the film. This includes 99.9% of all waxes!
Second, The Long Answer
1 - Keep the film waxed with PLEXUS (www.plexusplasticcleaner.com)
By nature, all paint protection film is porous, that's why it's so important to keep the film sealed with PLEXUS. Dirt, dust, and other air born impurities left on unsealed film will eventually cause the film to become dull (this is not covered under anyone's warranty).
**A note about PLEXUS
PLEXUS was developed for use in the aviation industry; specifically, for cleaning and protecting aircraft windshields and painted surfaces. PLEXUS seals the pores in plastic surfaces with a micro-thin layer of shiny protective wax, and thus makes plastics resistant to debris, oil, scratches, and eventual yellowing. Its antistatic properties repel dust and lint. PLEXUS will not harm your paint.
2 - Use ONLY soap & water to clean the film, then protect it with PLEXUS
3 - Do not use any kind of petroleum based products on the film.
Clear protection films do not like petroleum based products on them, because it causes them to yellow and become dull. Products like Simple Green, 409, bug & tar removers, and degreasers have harsh unrefined petroleum distillates in them, which in the long run, will harm the film.
4 - All paint protection films are very susceptible to water spotting. Hard water deposits baked on by the sun cannot be removed, and are not covered under anyone's warranty.
5 - Do not use any products that contain ABRASIVES or DYES on the film.
** A Note About Car Washes. If you frequent car washes, it is always recommended that you use brush-less or touch-less car washes. Make sure that they don't spray any wheel cleaners or degreasers on the film.
Can the film be waxed?
Yes, but only with PLEXUS.
How long does it take to install a kit?
With precut kits, installation times are typically 3-4 hours. At the custom level, installation times will depend on exactly what coverage is needed.
Can you cover the entire hood?
Yes, but keep in mind that, for all practical purposes, film width is limited to 55". So if your hood is more than that in either direction, there will be a seam.
Will I be able to see a line where the film stops?
Yes, you will be able to see a slight line, but it depends a lot on the color of your car. The edge of the film will be most evident on black cars, and the least visible on silver cars. To see what it looks like, lay a piece of 3 lb. monofilament fishing line across the hood of your car.
Are car manufactures using this product?
Yes, almost every auto maker (Porsche, MBZ, and Lotus) uses protective film at least somewhere on some of their models.
Is the application of the film permanent?
No, it is not permanent. It can be removed without harming the paint.
Will there be a two-tone effect on my paint after the film is removed?
No. The film has UV inhibitors in it, but it does let UV light through, so the paint shouldn't fade unevenly. As long as the uncovered portions of the paint were regularly washed and waxed, there should be no indication that film was ever installed.
Can the Film be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?
Yes, as long as the paint touch up has completely dried.
Can the Film be applied over a newly painted vehicle?
Yes, as long as the paint has completely cured, which usually that takes about 4 weeks.
Can the Film be applied over graphics?
Yes it can, however if the film has to be removed, some damage should occur to the underlying graphics.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary depending on the degree of difficulty and the amount of film being used. It has no bearing on the type of vehicle.
